Haven't had my 84 Bronc II on the highway much since I
put 31's on..or really , before.
they replaced bf's a/t's (15")
drove it today and 50 mph is tops in 4th !
It's a 5 spd, 2.8......figured 5th was out of the question !

we all know how anemic the motor is -
sure don't recall it being that doggy with the b/f's,
Suppose the 31's made a drastic difference ?
Or is something else going on ?

thoughts ?

what tire size were you running before? What tread are you running now? What's your gear ratio?

What rpm were you at in 4th at 50?

What year is it?

Who's the president?

We'll get you checked out at the hospital... :icon_twisted:

My guess is your gearing is a lil high for low power and 31's.

good one Chance...!
I have yet to do the research
on gearing guys...
probably doesn't matter,
believe the conclusion has been reached.
someday a V8,,, one of those
"when I'm retired" projects- if I make it 'til then !!!
thanks guys.

it's an 84, wouldnt that be 3.73? maybe a little lower

Ouch !
guess I'll stick to muddin'
it....
have plenty here.....

I would have to say that something else is wrong there. I have 33's on my b2 and it's easily capable of breaking the speed limit on the highway. The last time mine was as aneimic as you say yours is was after an incident with a tree took out the computer. It was an interesting ride home with no advance on the distributor.

martin,
do you have a 2.8 ?
if so , wow.
mine seems to be running
o.k. otherwise...

i have 3.27s and 31s in my 4.0 5speed and i could cruise on the highway nice as long as it was pretty flat but i had to down shift for a long hill

50mph indicated?

Did you correct the speedo drive gear to compensate for the larger tires?

AD

No Allan,
I realize larger tires have to be compensated for,
but accelerator is to the floor,
nothin' left, 50 mph is tops.
It has new plugs, wires,
cap, rotor, new t.f.i. module.
I'd call it a dog, but that is an
insult to dogs everywhere !!!

I hate 2.8s. That carburetor in particular. And that ignition. Finding the old non-electric carb and the Duraspark ignition would be good, if you have any compression left in the cylinders. I'd start with a compression check. Either way, it's probably more expensive to dig up the ancient parts than to swap in a 4.0.

agreed Will,
I know the 'ol guy's probably
tired. It doesn't burn any oil,
but have yet to do a
compression test....
