So ive been doing research to help a friend of mine that has a 88 ford ranger and I came across a few cars that I would like to find some more info about swapping and what to look for at the wrecking yard and what to stay away from,So far I found these to be good donor engines
85-89 merkur xr4ti
84-86 mustang svo
83-88 thunderbird coupe
83-86 cougar xr-7
now Ive been looking for about 1 hour trying to get the specs to figure out what years on these vehicles to look for at the wrecking yard,So far I found the thunderbird coupe 87-88 seems to have the highest hp at 190 and 240 flbs tq that only comes in manual trans (which is fine)then I found some early model ones that had only 155 hp so I'm just trying to sort out what exactly to look for when we get to the yard I odviously want the ones with max hp and torque does anyone have any suggestions while were at the yard at year/make/models to really go for?I dont wanna grab the lowest hp turbo one by accident,Whats the difference in these cars motors are they all the same with just a few different things added ie,. intercooler/bigger turbo ect.I really appreciate the help the ford ranger isnt mine its my neihbors and he was wanting to just turbo the N/A 2.3 liter cast piston one the truck came with which I dont think is a good idea for a first timer with a boosted car so please help me choose the right engine for him,He definitaly wants turbo.
