Just joined the forum. Live in Ashland, KY. 27 years old. I currently have my second ranger. It's a 98 XLT extended cab, 4 banger, 5 spd, 2wd. Right now it doesn't look to hot, or run great for that matter. I bought it in 05 with 59,000 on the clock. A few months later the trouble began. A mysterious bent front bumper arrived after a visit to the local grocery. Shortly after that my air-dam became attached by yellow 1/4" rope after a bad bout of reversing followed by a worse bout of unstucking. Couple of months later a huge dog in the road broke the rope, finishing off the air dam. Later on a case of beer and argument with my wife led to a dented fender and bruised hand. Not to long after the drunk bump I had a brief encounter with an eight point that was ever so gracious enough to not only hit my passenger headlight and bumper but also slide along the dside of the truck denting the passenger door. Then on new years morning two years ago I was on my way to work and hit black ice on the interstate and bounced off the side of a bridge a few times. That finished off the front bumper and passenger headlight/turnsignal. It also dented the rear of my passenger bedside.
Besides all that it has recently developed a low rpm miss that seems like it may be fuel related or possibly the throttle positioning sensor (thats what a buddy said). Oh yeah, the heater kicks on under heavy load.
But, it's paid off. And really other then a fender, pass. door, pass. headlight, fuel filter, it doesn't much work. My problem is that it has no power. It stalled trying to pull a small trailer of furniture up my old driveway. So I'm trying to decide if I should do a motor swap (to a 4.0) or just do some stuff to my current motor to give me some more power (i.e. exhaust, programmer, cold air). Any suggestions?
