Help(((my starter wont shut off)))

ok all i hope someone can help me here i own 87 B2 2.9 my starter will not shut off. I changed the silonoid(yep i cant spell ) the other day drove it 3 days today i start it up and the starter will not stop. I check all the wires even changed the groun d from battery to block . i see no wires grounding out . i need help this is drivn me crazy or even worse to drive my wifes chevy lol

Probably bad ignition switch.
 
ok tried the ignition switch. even tried it while it was disconnected and still my starter turns over when i connect the battery
 
pull off the small slip on wire on the soleniod from the ignition switch.use a meter or light to see if it has power all the time.that would cause the same prob.
 
ok his what i have total i was havn trouble getting it to start had to use the old but good mehod of 2 screwdrivers to cross the solenoid next day i changed the solenoid from autozone new drove 3 days then the next started would not shu off even with key out . i then changed the ground searched for all wires that could be bad,still nothing,i then today changed switch and another new solenoid but now lol of all things i have no power to truck at all i took battery side cable off then touched i to the starter side and it ttried to turn over but as soon as i put cable back on it i went back to no power ive had this beast from brand new and nothing of this kind of problem has ever happened and im at a total loss
 
It's got a short to power. Disconnect the "hot" side from the starter and connect it to a voltmeter grounded to the starter case. This prevents you burning out your starter or making the vehicle lurch. Then work backwards from the starter on the hot side, disconnecting each segment in turn (and then putting it back) until you find the one that doesn't have any effect. That's the part that is shorted to power.

It's probably a problematic or incorrectly installed starter relay (it is NOT a solenoid).

It is NOT a short to ground. Your starter is hot-side switched, and a short to ground will just discharge the battery and melt things. It MAY be an internally shorted starter doing in your relays due to excessive current. Might be worth yanking the starter to have it tested.
 
ok just needed a full day off to work on tthe beast and finally go it going . i need o put a real big THANKS to everyone that helped. It turned out that i had a string of bad luck i went threw 3 new but junk starter relays and 4th i got did the trick.So i went back and looked at he 3 bad and found that somthing inside all 3 would shake and was loose.It felt like the guts werent even attached.

I found that buying electical parts at advance auto parts are a waste of time. Sure you get a life time warrenty but I do not like taking parts back every few days. I too bought cheap parts at dicount stores . On sunday or after 12 on sat. Napa has a good rep. for quality parts. :nopityA:
