2wd to 4wd

Hey, first off I have searched but would like to clarify. A B2 and an explorer can be swapped to 4 wd from a 2wd an not change the engine crossmember right? A ranger has to have the cross member swapped... The reason I ask is a first gen 4x4 ranger and even just a B2 4x4 are getting hard to find for a decent price.
 
yup explorer/B2 bolt on 91-94/83-90
ranger you have to change crossmembers 83-97

95-01 explorer just a brachet for diff need welded to frame
98-current edge, dual sport, etc same as 95-01 explorer(torsion bar 2wd)

be nice if someone made this a stickey since it comes up alot

early b2 from 84-88/89 have a dummy t-case so they are the easiest to convert

I did, just wanted to make sure on what I was reading. I also am not completely computer literate.....
