Hey, I own a 1994 Mazda B4000 with a 4.0... recently i have developed a tick which i presume is the famous valve tick that these motors are famous for... I'm not sure if it is for sure, it ticks on start up and increases as you rev the engine... once the motor reaches operating temperature the tick goes away... but over time the tick has seemed to increase in severity... instead of lasting a minute it seems to last 10, and is noticeably louder... if it is the valves, what do you recommend???? and also i know of a rebuilt 4.0 that came out of a 1991 ranger that i can pretty much get for nothing, is this the same motor and is it just worth swapping motors if it fits?

The classic "tick" in a 4.0 engine is actually galling of the pushrod socket in the underside of the rocker arm and the pushrod tip.

It's literally a couple of hours worth of work to fix the problem with new parts,
You'll need rocker shaft assemblies and pushrods as well as a pair of valvecover gaskets.

It's not a big deal.

It's certainly not worth replacing the engine for.

yes that engine would fit, but you don't need it. pull the pushrods and rocker arms and look for wear.

And you'll need to use ALL of your '94's sensors, injectors and engine controls for it to work.

If you want to be "cheap" about the job you can pull the rocker shafts
off and visually inspect the sockets.

It's rare for all of the rockers to be galled so you can selectively
replace just the galled ones.
And all twelve rockers are identical so you can pick good ones
out of a junkyard donor engine.

as for the pushrods those you can be even cheaper.... just
switch them end-for-end, they only gall at the rocker arm end and
putting the galled end down against the lifter will work as a
somewhat more than temporary fix

Checkout Delta Camshaft in Tacoma, WA. http://www.deltacam.com/ On their home page you'll see their F-40 rocker arm/push rod upgrade kit for $181.50 and it works great! Took me about 3 hours to complete the job and I haven't heard a tic since.

After right this minute getting off the phone with they machine the rockers
and use a hardened insert in the pushrod socket.

I think this is a better deal that I've seen previously because these come
as assemblies instead of loose, repaired rocker arms.

BC, college, might head to Alberta for work in the summer. What are you studying? I'm a welder/sheetmetal

Back on topic though: Where else can I order CompCams from? I need it shipped to Canada and I dont want to beg any companies to do that for me and end up getting gouged on the price.
