I know this is gonna be a stupid question for most people to answer...but i can't figure out how to remove the camshaft for a '72 302. Nothing online is giving me answers...anyone help...FYI This is my first time removing a camshaft.

So, what's giving you the problem? Remove the timing cover, then the timing set, unscrew the 2 camshaft retainer plate bolts, rotate the cam thru a full revolution, remove the lifters, then slide the cam out.

Should come off fairly easy after removing the center bolt, just by tugging on it and working it side to side. If not, then rent a pulley puller to get it off.

i actually had the same problem. i just used a tie rod puller and an adapter from another puller that fit inside the hole on the cam pulley and after a small amount of force on the puller it popped right off.

Help some more please

got the cam out now. didn't know the cam gear was half pressed, on half bolted on... i've been looking at Comp Cams Magnum retro-fit hydrualic roller cam kit. It has in/ex lift of .512"....will i have enough piston to valve clearence? (9:1 compression btw). also...the stock valve springs measured 1.375", will a dual spring with 1.430" o.d fit on the stock seats?

stock with 58cc chamber...i think the casting number is C9TE

You're not going to be able to run that cam with those heads unless you have screw in studs and guide plates installed. The profile and spring pressures will pull the pressed in studs you have now out in no longer than about 10 minutes run time. Plus the stock ports aren't really the best choice for the profile either. If you're dead set on it, then better figure on a set of aftermarket heads too. Or a smaller cam no bigger than a Comp 268H.

i plan on using either AFR or RHS heads later on (short on cash) but i do plan on doing a good port and polish especially on the exhaust ports. along with an air gap intake

You will still need to replace the stock pressed in studs to run that cam. May as well save the money and apply it toward better heads. By the time you do a port/polish job on em, you'll have spent at least half what a better set will run you. Maybe more, if you concentrate on buying a good set of used heads instead of going for new ones. Great deals out there now with the recession in full swing.

please stay away from comp cams if you can.

lol...what's bad about Comp? anyway i found a flat tappet cam from Comp...Nostalgia plus 271H. 480/475" lift and power range is 2200-6400 to work with the intake. oh and here's a random question. Can beehive valve springs be installed upside down?
