in order to remove that u joint to replace the shaft the easiest way is to drop the third member to remove the c clip that hold the shaft in..once the shaft if out of the truck you replace the u joint like any other...i have heard of some removing that u joint while the axle is still instaleld on the truck..big PITA tho..but you could try that first with some sort of hand held press.

after you remove the clips from the insides of the joint it will press right out.

yeah it is just rusty making it look like a solid piece...just remove the inner c clips and pound the u joint out..sometimes they are a pain.
