lots of hype has been going on with this new f-150, and i've broke down and could only find COVERED spied shots of the truck...until now
this time the only thing covered is the FX4 XTR? or whatever 4x4 emblem on the bed, and the f150 emblem on the side, perhaps it will have a diesel in it after all, the F-150 emblem on the side says Triton V8 and whatever on it.
I think just by looking it at it, the whole truck seems a little longer then the other new body styled ones..

The truck is a facelift for the 04+ trucks, a style which never has grown on me due to its bulky appearance (which they are keeping). I do think I heard about making the cab bigger, probably to keep up with the Dodge Megacab and Toyota's equivalant. Starting in midyear '06 the 6.5' bed was optional along with the 5.5' bed in a CrewCab, it kind of looks like this truck has the longer bed.

looks like the front end is leaning toward the european ford style now. Im glad they didnt make it like the new super-dutys, those are the ugliest truck out there now.
overall looks good, and if they have a diesel i will buy one in two years for sure...unless they suck.

Thats one bad ass looking truck and I totally agree.
By far my favorite style of Ford.
I had a buddy years ago that had a '77 f150 4x4 with 35'' tires on it. You couldn't kill that truck. One tough beast for sure.

Agreed. The older truck's body style is the cleanest, followed by the 92-96 bodystyle.
Saw the uncovered pics on Ranger-forums, hated it. It's nothing special.
Personally I think Ford should go the other way everyone else it... where's the originality out of it???

The cool thing about the older ones we're.....they cleaned up good enough to fit in in town takin the ol lady out to eat or whatever....but still looked right at home grunting a tractor stuck in the mud.
Lots of steel put togther with big bolts and welds. Simplicity. The simpler it is, the tougher. Less stuff to go wrong. I love em'. May not have the bells and whistles of the new trucks but they still work jsut as hard.....and in some cases harder.
By far the BEST looking, TOUGHEST built, HARDEST working, most BAD ASS trucks ever built. 73-79 F series.

I think the '79 looked the best, followed by the 92-96. Ford needs a retro model they did with the mustang.

no the retro mustang was good, if they do a retro on the 73-79 fords then they will screw it up, i hope they dont, all it will be is a look somewhat cool pussified versian of a truck...

its looks like a cross between the escape and the superduty. My favorite would be a toss up between the 93 - 96 style or the F-250 harley davidson that we have at work... its a really nice lookin truck and i dont care what anyone says!

that thing just looks like the lincoln version of the F150. I personally like the look of the new Super dutys but i LOVE the look of the 06' Super duty. Then again, id love for ford to bring back the international diesel!

International (Navistar) has made the diesels for Ford since the early 80's for their light duty (3/4 and one ton) trucks. The 6.9, 7.3, 6.0, and 6.4 are all different (some more than others) but they are all made by Navistar.

According to my newest Four Wheeler rag it will have a 5.8L Boss and 6.2L Boss engine and a 4.4L Turbo diesel engine as new engines. It also says gone is the 4 door regular cab in favor of 2 larger doors. RB

The 6.9 and 7.3L used the exact same block. Just the 7.3 was bored and stroked some. Kinda like a 302 and 351.

They finally unveiled it, really it doesn't look too bad. I do like it better than the current style, but it will have to grow on me a fair amount before I like it better than the style before that.

The 6.5' bed option with the Supercrew makes it look pretty long, it should be about the same height as the existing truck, from what I understand the new one is just a more refinded version of what we already have.

The 6.2L should take care of that next year...

The new Dodge Ram has that grill that leans forward a little, sort of like the 70's F series. Not a bad looking truck. Still a Mopar though.

I saw that truck, looks pretty um, well, unique. They also anounced a light duty cummins for it. I sure hope ford pulls the rabbit out of the hat soon and gives us the diesel and starts thinking better. The motors in the new f150 are real old technology, over 10 years now.

More like 4 years old, they were changed extensively in 2004 when the 3-valve engines came out with an extra valve and variable valve timing. If you do your homework right the first time, you don't need a completly new engine everytime you want more power, just tweek with the one you have.
It is really kind of annoying, over 3 months since the unveiling and they still haven't released the ratings of the engines though.
Ford is coming out with a in house diesel in 2010 for the F-150, rumor has it since the 6.4 won't pass the next emissions hit and for the grief Navistar is giving them they are working on their own engine for the Superduty as well.
I would take an FX4 in a heartbeat, way better looking (and performing) than the existing trucks. Pictures don't do it justice, they look much better in real live (they had one here at a car show a couple months ago)

i am a mechanic at a ford dealership in bakersfield, and there is a rumor goin around that in either '09 or '10 they are going to be putting the diesel in the f-150. it is the same motor that is in the lcf (basically a 6.0 that they chopped two cylinders off)

No the 4.4 (the latest release I have seen) is a completly Ford build engine, Navistar (maker of the old 6.0 or 6.4) has nothing to do with it. Actually the 4.4 was adapted from a european Land Rover engine. Rumor has it that Ford is working on an in house 6.7 diesel for the F-250+ trucks as well, which I can't say that I blame them for the way Navistar has jerked them around in the last couple years..
There are so many rumors floating around about it that is a mess.

i like all f-150s from 78-2003. favorites would be the 92-96 ones. i never liked the new ones, they look all "modern" styled. the new ones look like the 04-current ones with a new front. looks like they are making it look like the superduties, which i also don't care for.

The only way you have been able to get the manual since 1997 was with a 4.2 or 4.6, and you only got maybe 1 or two mpg better than a 5.4 with an automatic, not worth the hassle IMO but whatever floats your boat.
