Introduction and questions

I inherited a 1984 Ford Ranger, V6, long bed, 4-wheel drive. It has 104K miles but has mostly set for the last 10 years (4K miles in that time, less than 10 over the last 3 years). A little rust, but not much (it has been inside), but now not running. I was told that the top end of the engine was redone at 99K miles – 10 years ago. I know that it needs, exhaust. a wiper motor and transmission pan gasket.

I am not a mechanic by any stretch, so about anything that needs to be done, will need to be done by a professional. I would like to put the truck back into service (both for need of a truck and sentimental reasons), but do not want to put “much” more into it than what it is worth.

I had it running after replacing the accelerator pump in the carburetor (which was leaking bad). It ran great and drove well. Later, it started running roughly. The next week, I added fresh gas thanking the gas in it was not great and it would not start. I may have flooded it badly or something else bad may have happend. You can hear it fire once every 100 revolutions, but that is it.

Questions: (1) Is it worth trying to replace the plugs, wires and cap (which does not look like any fun), or should I just have it towed to some place that knows what they are doing? I have flooded lawn mowers before to where a plug replacement was required, but 6 plugs?? (2) The floor shift does not seem to line up with the notches for Park, reverse and drive. Simple adjustment, or transmission problem. (3) What is the thing worth running, so I have a top end for the amount to put into repairs?

1) its worth replaceing about 30 dolloars in parts. and easier than you think. just remember where the wires went to or it wont run
(2) if it still goes into the gears at the right time its the shifter out of adjustment. (3)if you realy dont want it someone here might buy it
