So i posted this on the transmission section but no one answered it so i'll try here. The clutch on my 86 ford ranger 2.9 4X4 V6 doesn't work. I've bled it over and over again . It works fine sometimes but after i let it sit for a couple of hours it has no pressure. I've been trying to find a leak but can't find any. anyone know what it can be? THANKS!

Air in the master cylinder. Do a search on "bleeding clutch" and you will find out how to do it (there is rly only one good way). This has been talked about in many threads.

slave cylinders are common to go out in the 93-97s but idk about other gens. if they use the same cylinder or not

Mine did this. Its air, But I dont know if i drove it enough to release the bubble in the master or what. I just would pump the pedal a couple times each morning and after it sat for more than an hour. But eventually it stopped and worked just fine, mostly. Prolly just a freak of nature, what I read in the TECH LIBRARY said something about removing the master cylinder and tilting to a certain angle while bleeding to allow air to excape that way. Or maybe someone told me, I dont know. Either way I bled the clutch on my 92 for an hour and never got any fluid out the bleeder valve on the slave. I gave up.

open the rubber view port on the side of your transmission. Put your finger up in there and feel the bottom of the bell housing inside. It it is wet with clear smelly brake fluid....then your slave cylinder is bad and you need to pull the transmission to replace it.
