Full Interior Change

Alright, I have a 97 ranger and it's green with that xlt stripe down the side. At some point I really want to paint the truck black and a green interior on a black truck would look stupid. How much of a PIA is it to change all the interior to black and I'm looking to not spend tooo much money. Bc that means dashboard, doors, headliner, carpet, seats. I not sure what I wanna do
 
If you want a real cheap solution then they do sell rattle can paint that is made for interior, I wouldn't suggest it but it is damn cheap compared to an entirely new interior. or you could just go to the junk yard and take the interior out of another ranger. I'm not sure if ford made a black interior that would fit your year but my 94 has a gray interior that I just used a rattle can to paint some of the panels black and it actually came out pretty nice, at least I think it did

I did the rattle can method and it worked fine. Check out my link in my signature. It will take you to Car Domain and my page. I took my time, followed all the advice from other posters and it looks great! The only parts I didn't do are the seats, headliner & visors. Gonna have them done professionally.
 
Did u you just use seat covers and cover the console? And your saying you painted the dash board, door panels, and console with spray paint? And what about the like plastic panels on the walls behind the seat and the back of the can wall? And what did you do for seat belts and how much is it to change out carpet and headliner? I think that covers just about everything right? If I left anything out please lemme know, just trying to see how this would all work out.

there are dies made that can work for carpet pieces. I wouldn't go so far as to recommend them for headliners and visors, but who knows, ya might wanna check that out.
 
the only things i wouldnt die are the carpet and seats, everything else just dye with some duplicolor fabric dye.
 
The seats have covers. The headliner & visors will be recovered professionally. The rest was: De-natured alcohol, prep wipes, adhesion promoter & black vinyl/fabric spray paint. It's not perfect but it's passed inspection by pros. The biggest investment is TIME. I did this over 2 weeks including a vacation.

okay, denatured alcohol at any home improvement store?

prep wipes??

and the vinyl/fabric spray at advance or somewhere similar?


do you need to sand with any like 500 grit or anything?

nope, thats why i hit the panles with laquer thinner first. it opens the pores of the vinyl and also softens it allowing the dye to stick very well, and stay soft.

so you think i can do my dash (the padded part) and probably repaint the metal part too? and then all the metal pieces along the bottom as well?

what about the gauge trim and the trim around the ac/heat stuff?

yes, go to the show off thread and look for "THE BLACKWIDOW RANGER" and go to the last page. theres pics of my "dirty" interior. i dyed my interior black instead of the original burgandy. i just replced the carpet, and headliner. everything else is dyed.
 
only bad thing with the dye and paint I believe is though if it gets scratched it shows the previous color because it isn't that color all the way through
 
That's true. Anything painted if scratched will show what's underneath. If it happens get the can back out, press the trigger and POOF! Scratch is gone! The only way to keep that from happening is to get someone to reproduce the part you want in that color which to my knowledge is well not gonna happen.
