which manual hubs to use???

OK I have been reading all of the tech stuff and various threads in here, and so far I can't find the ahswer I am looking for.

I have an "03 FX4 LII and was wondering which manual hubs to use for the swap? Everything I am reading only gives years up to 2000. Would that be the same for the '03's? would I be best off to find the HEEP hubs or is there a better option?? Oh and please include part numbers if you know them. Thanks in advance!!
 
aren't the 03's live axle? meaning there are no hubs . the front end works with cv axles.
 
You wold have to convert your live axle to a 98 to 01 pvh set up then you can get manual hubs. to much trouble imo.

The hubs and cv's are always engaged but the transfer case is not, when you switch into 4wd it engages the T/C.

Live axle doesn't mean "powered" axle, it simply means the front axles are linked solid to the wheels without lock-outs.
 
There are no (un)locking hubs for 98+ Rangers AFAIK. I've heard for years that someone was going to make them, I forget who, but I don't know if they've ever actually come to market.
The 98-99 pulse-vacuum system proved to be troublesome and unreliable so Ford went to the always-live hubs already being used on the Explorer. Swapping the Explorer parts into a Ranger is popular when the pulse-vac system acts up.
 
I apollogize if this sounds kind of dumb, but I am new to truck ownership and having a 4x4, but ..........

So what your basically sayins is the hubs are always locked and the only time they are actually driven is when the TC is locked in 4wheel? If this is the case then how could it be set to use in say 2low for the trailer manuevering? or is this not gonna be a possibility??

You're correct, you won't have 2Low for trailer maneuvering, but as long as you're not making tight turns on pavements, you'll be fine just using 4Low for that if you need it.

does anyone know anything about those avm hubs, cause i will order mine right now?

AVM now makes manual locking hubs for 98-00 Ranger 4x4 equipped with the pulse vacuum hublocks. Tellico4x4 offers them.
 
i just ordered a set of them avms, soo im gonna see how they are. Im looking forward to not having my front axle engaged all the times.
