i was lookin to get a muffler for a more agressive sound and was under my 96 ranger 4.0 and it looks like the cat back is one peice??? do i have to cut my factory exhaust to put on an after market muffler???

Dont think so. My 93 has 3 pieces after the cat. 3' pipe with springs, muffler, then tail pipe with bend over rear axle and out side.

If the muffler is stock from the factory, it'll be welded on.
So to replace it, you'll need to cut the pipes.

I suspect that swfjesse's muffler has been replaced at some point.

if you are replacing the whole cat back and want to save the factory exhaust, you can do it.

unbolt the 2 bolts in front of the muffler, pry off or cut the rubber parts of the hangers and snake it out the back. you will just need to buy new rubbers for the hangers.

I did this on a friends dad's EDGE when he put on a hearthrob system.

That's a good tip.
I've found the hangers are easy to pry out of the rubber
isolators with a crowbar, if you use a spray lube on them first.....
