me and my dad were doing my front brakes on my truck(d28 front axels btw) and i was taking my wheeles off
i get all the lugs off and the wheel was stuck, no buggie(i just kicked it)
and as my wheels fell off , so did my locking hucs(manual)
so i took them out and stuck them back on the rotor

there was no locking(holding)washers on them(haynes manual says there should be)

so can i just leave them loose
should i put new washers on it
and is the fact that they just slide off bad nuse bears

thank god i forgot to order greace seals and i dont need the truck at the moment

thanx

That age of truck, they're bound to be missing.

There's a method in the tech library for retaining them with screws. You can also silicon them on. Or just live with them, being careful about them when you take the wheel off.

i have yet to find a RBV that acutally has the proper washers to hold them on. dont worry about it one bit. just make shure the large rubber ring on the back of the hub is intact, there is enough grease in it, and that the c-clip on the axle is still there and your good to go. when you put it back together lock both hubs and you should be able to spin the tire on the other side. then unlock the hub and grab the axle and SLOWLY try and spin the tire. it should spin freely. DONT BUST UP YOUR HAND AND SPIN IT HARD!

The clip is just there for the assembly line. Ford tech's don't replace them. The lug nuts hold everything tight.
I have never been a Ford tech but, I just asked a 25 year Ford tech the same question last week. Actually it was about the clip on brake drums but, more or less the same thing.
