So me and the wife bought a ranger to help her learn how to drive a stick. It's a 92 2wd 2.3l. It had 80k on the odometer when we got it. I went over everything on the truck, all the fluids, hoses belts etc. and have been driving it for the last month. I put about 3,500 miles on it. I recently had to make a road trip to Maryland (about 400 miles round trip) so I figured the truck was broken in and ready for a long drive. I get down there and everything is fine, I turn around and start heading home and WHAM! The rear tires lock up and all of a sudden I'm skidding off the highway. I came to a stop almost in the shoulder so I throw the flashers on and look underneath. Everything is still attached but the balance ring is busted off the driveshaft. I get back into the truck and try to drive it off the road, it rolls about 10 feet and locks up. So I manage to get off the highway 10 or so feet at a time. My wife and buddy make a trip down with my tow rig and trailer, we pick up the ranger and tow it back to jersey. I pulled the trans today and this is what I found...
Now here's my problem. I can't find a trans local to me nor can I find a trans shop willing to rebuild it. I think I'm gonna try doing it myself. Is there a company selling kits or anyone tried this before?
EDIT: I just saw AllanD's Write up on how to dis-assemble the Mazda M5OD-R1 From what he said it doesn't seem that hard...
