I've been looking all over the internet for info on the rear end that is in my 88 ranger...there is no service tag on it or anything, the truck has the 2.9L FI engine and the auto overdrive tranny, does anybody know anything about the rear ends that were offered with the truck?

More importantly the ratio of the ring and pinion gears

bump
the tags say my a4ld has a 3.73 and the 5 spd 4x4 has a 3.93.

as for other ratios maybe someone else will answer

The one hard anf fast rule is that the 2.9 trucks with 5sp manual
trans NEVER got the 4.10 gears, but other than that Nate is spot on.

with an auto 3.45, 3.73 and 4.10 are all possible.

If you had a 5sp we could eliminate 4.10's from the possibilities.

If there's no tag on the diff is the safety certification label still on the drivers door?

Is it the original door? what is the axle code?

Two digit starting with either an "F" or an "8"
Second digit will be "4", "6" or "7"

"F" denotes a limited slip rear diff.

4 = 3.45
6 = 3.73
7 = 4.10
