Hey guys lately I've been having issues with both my e brake light and my check engine light. My check engine light came on a few days ago and I figured it was the gas cap, bought a new one and still no luck. So I reset the battery and the check engine light was gone. But today its back on again. Is there anything else I should look at before spending the money on a code reader or a mechanic. And the e brake light just wont come on at all anymore, although I know the two issues are not related.

You're working blind. Get the mechanic.

Would you consider driving before buying the glasses you need to see?

There are quite literally thousands of things that can set the check engine light. You cannot diagnose on the light alone. Period. End of story.

Most any chain parts store in the US will read the code (OBDII) for free. They want to sell you the parts to fix it. Have heard that some Canadian Tire stores will do it also.

Yea I'm up in Canada. Ontario to be more specific. If anyone knows of any places around here that will check it for free that would be a huge help.

like Wings said, any big name auto parts store will have a code reader you can use, or rent cheap. Some will even do it for you.
