how often do you guys replace the timing chain on the OHV 4.0L? i've tried looking around to find out about replacing it and such, but can't find anything on it.

I should think you wouldnt have to unless your real hard on it. But unless someone wiht more experience jumps in, I would say around 100k

It's designed to last the life of the engine. You don't have to replace it. This is true for pretty much any engine with a timing chain. Which is why I love timing chains, and hate timing belts.

+1, Timing chains are not a maintenance item like a timing belt is.

I've never seen or heard a credible report of a timing chain failure
on a 4.0OHV.

On a 4.0SOHC? Oh, yeah....

ok, i just wasn't sure cause on my brother's yota, he actually had the timing chain wear through the cover. He found it before it took the motor out, but i've also had a friend who didn't catch it in time and it took the motor out, some coolant got in wear the timing chain had worn through, and took the motor out. but then again it was a toyota hahaha

the Long timing chains used on OHC engines are much more prone to wear and failure than the much shorter chains used on V6 and V8 pushrod engines.
