i want to beast up my 4.0 slug which would be better? camed and carbed, or supercharged,? need opinions

Cam is probably a lot easier to find, I don't know that anyone makes a charger for the OHV 4.0 any more. Cam is also gonna be a lot cheaper, but a super charger will probably get you more power

Regear your diffs.

i'm interested in a cam too what kind of power gains will this mod offer also will it affect fuel economy. sorry general lee i'm not trying to steal your topic.

not a problem, i herd that is atleast a 80-90hp and a 70-80lbs trq thats what i herd dont know how accurate that is but..along with the cam im going to add new headers

I think maybe you heard wrong.. Camming it will give you a bit more horses where you usually USE the engine...but not anywhere near what you heard.
Make sure to get the camshaft that is in the rpm range where you WILL BE using the engine..
Getting a cam that turns on between 3,000 and 7,000 rpm won't do you any good at all for most applications.
We used to call the cams we used "stump pullers" .. As mostly what we do use in our rides is the low end of the rpm range.
A camshaft that shows more horsepower usually shows it at the HIGH end of the rpm range.. Where the engine rarely is running..
Lots of my friends have cammed their rides with camshafts that barely will drive around town...and are terrible offroad. Sure they have tons of horses.. but they can't get to them below 3,000.
So be careful when purchaseing a camshaft.. KNOW in advance what you will be doing with that engine.
Big JIm

I actually seen a ranger on youtube with a cam and it sounded mean...How much trouble is it doing this? I know on a sbc its a peice of cake.

what all do you need with the cam you need new lifters too right?

do you know how much the lifters are on summit?

I have a 93 4.0 and want the most RPM possible seeing as im going to only use ths thing at the dunes and probaly a 75HP shot of NOS. What cam should i get and whats your thoughts on my plan seeing as I am a rookie. THank you. Hope this isn't considerd a thread jack since were till talking cams?
