bent rear brake shoe.
bent rear brake shoe.
ever seen anything like this before? me neither. i had had some squeaking for awhile but didnt know where it was, sounded like a u-joint but the speed was wrong, more like tire speed than driveshaft speed. after a trip where i noticed alot of clunking going on when i would stop, i pulled the drums off and found this. was only on the right side. the only thing i can figure out is that back in may when i had manually adjusted the brakes (my self-adjuster cables were rusted away) i had gotten them too tight. i went from home to work, about 4 miles and when i got there i could smell the brakes, had smoke comeing out the left wheelwell as well. was too hot to do anything with so i went on into work. when i went to leave work that night the rear brakes were seized, i had to put it in 4L to free them, i think thats what bent the right side secondary. put new shoes, spring kit and new cables for the adjusters in the other day. thought id share the bent shoe story. oddly enough the brakes still worked fine.
