Anybody out their that has used oil dye can probably help me. I went down and bought a ounce of oil dye added it to a quart of oil, mixed and dumped into motor. also bought a black light that screwed into my trouble light. After running it for a coulple miles and making sure that it was leaking oil I started looking for where the oil was coming from with the black light. My problem is the dyed oil did not look any different under the black light. Just looked like oil. I even pulled the dip stick and gazed at it under the black light, no difference. Is their a differece between a black light and a uv light? Do I need something else besides a black light, guy at the parts store said something about yellow glasses. Thanks guys.

If you are talking about one of those purple light bulbs that just screw into a socket then yes there is a difference. Most UV lights that are used to properly see the flourescent dye are high intensity lights that are even brighter than the old fashion black light of the 60's and 70's. If you do use one of those true UV lights DO NOT look into the light because you can damage your eyes. They also sell some safety goggles to pretect your eyes and help you see the dye better in not so dark areas, but i would recommend searching in the dark for best results.
