Crankshaft pulley 180* off?

I just got my 4x4 conversion/tranny swap driving and took it for a little test drive. Came home and tried to check the base timing (spout removed) since it was fully up to operating temperature. I couldnt' find the crankshaft marks, so I shut off the engine, located the marks, cleaned them good, and painted them with white paint. Re-started the engine, pointed the timing light at the crankshaft pulley and still no marks. Found them on the driver's side of the pulley, seemingly 180* give or take off from where they should be! :tease: Can't remember from when I had the crank pulley bolt/washer off if there is more than one groove in the crank and pulley.

Engine runs good and idle speed and crank decrease when I remove the spout connector.

Is is possible to install the 2.9 crank pulley 180* or any other amount off from where it should be?

the marks shouldn't be on the pulley they should be on the balancer. if there is a mark on the pulley it is likely a crack.

no, there is a woodruff (sp?) key that aligns them. but i suppose theres a chance you could have the cam timing wrong??

try putting the timing light on the first cylinder on the passenger side. thats cylinder #1.
your not the first to do that, and certainly not the last.

Oops, I meant that the timing marks are on the balancer. No crack.

Yes as I recall a woodruff key aligns them and there is only one slot...as I recall.

Oh crap, has it been that long...lol I put it on the front driver's side cylinder.. :D ...that is number 4 isn't it??? That would explain why it wasn't quite 180* off. :D It starts with passenger front as number 1 then 2 and then 3 down the right bank...then number 4 at front driver's side....down the bank number 5 and number 6.....hehehehe. Oops thanks for waking me up.
