I have an 84 ranger with a 2.8L engine. I would like a trany with a lower first gear. What are my choices? I know the t-18 have a grany first, but can I bolt it to my engine? Do I need an adapter kit? What other transmissions are other people running? Thanks for any advice.

Your only options are to change the differential gears or put on (much) smaller tires.

Anything else will cost much more than your truck. Even the differential gears in a 4x4 are going to cost more than your truck is worth.

If you want a 4 speed, the t18, t19 or NP 435 are all good choices. If you can find ZF 5 speed 1st gear is pretty deep as well. I know a few guys who have put NP 435s behind 2.9Ls.

not cheap, but will give you a nuclear bomb proof crazy low range.i am trying to see if one can be attached to a 2300cc with the available trans,or go to t90 or t18 with a dana20/and a KluneV would be awesome!
