I used to think it was kind of funny when the windshield wiper would take a sweep on it's own every once in a while. Now the blinker doesn't work. (the same stalk). If you sort of balance the stalk between off and on, it will light up, but does nothing when flipped all the way up or down. I would guess I need a new stalk. Any other thoughts? Has anyone replaced one of these?

more than likely it is the multi function switch that is bad. it is an easy fix. pull the top and bottom cover off the steering column and 2 screws hold it on
 
I had the same problem. Figured it was broke any way so I took the multi function switch out and tore it apart. I found a small wire that the coating was broke. I took it out put some shrink tube on it and put it all back together. No problems since. that was about 2 years ago. If all else fails you gotta replace the switch anyhow.
