Bad Gas Mileage Or Faulty Gauge???

i have a 1988 Ford ranger ext cab 2.9L lifted on 33"s and auto hubs and push button 4x4.I filled my tank the other day completley full and i went aprox. 90 miles and the gas gauge is reading empty...now is this a common gas gauge problem or am i just getting some really bad gas mileage?HELP!=)

yes the gauges are notorious for false readings.

but to be safe.... refill your tank and and figure the actual MPGS.

maybe your leaking as you driving

The sender is the most common by far.

with a lift and 33 inch tires your fuel mileage isn't going to be that great anyway but it should be much better than 90 miles to a tank

mine reads empty at 110 miles. but it goes till 315 before it runs dry.

on my 87 its empty after it hits the bottom of the E, so from the E to the Bottom of the E its around 50 miles left

My gauge reads empty at all times so I simply reset the trip odometer at each fill up to track how much gas is left.

Thanks for all the help guys im just gonna have to run her dry even though i dont like to because its bad for the truck but im gonna have to do it to see where im at.

No need to run it dry to determine mpg. Just fill the tank a couple times when it's somewhat low, resetting the trip odometer and noting how many gallons it takes each time to fill it. Each time you fill up divide miles driven by gallons needed to top up and reset trip[ odometer. You will soon have a very accurate idea of your average mpg.
