Rebuilidng my dana 28 (87 Ranger) and there is a white plastic spacer only on the right axle. This spacer was only in one of the axles that I used for rebuild parts and only on the right outer stub axle....it was between the stub axle and the spindle (just inboard of the seal and the needle bearing.) I looked and don't find this mentioned in the axle tech section or shown in the exploded view pdf.

Should there be one of these on the left side too?

Just took apart another parts truck and it's not there either. wtf?

Update, tried to assemble it with the white plastic washer only on the right side stub and the c-clip wouldn't go on even when I used a pry-bar on the back side of the axle to push it out. So I disassembled it all, removed the plastic spacer and it all went together fine, had to push the axle a little bit to get the c-clip on. Drives fine and wheels great! Anybody else seen this washer in there axle and know about it?

Some D35s have a gray plastic spacer around the base of the stub shaft keeping the inner seal sealed against the back of the spindle. If the spacer is installed backward it'll prevent the shaft from seating all the way through the spindle. Perhaps this is the same way on the D28.

INteresting regarding d35....Dana28 doesn't matter which way this plastic spacer goes in, it is small enough diameter that it doesn't matter.

The D28 one doesn't have a chamfer on one side where it seats around the base of the stub axle?

Mine doesn't have one at all..
