i am currently in the process of swapping an 86 thunderbird turbocoupe engine into my 86 ranger. the engine is in and all thats left to be done is wiring it. i have both the harnesses and both computers. I got the pinout diagrams from the dealer and tried to make sense of it all but it doesnt all match up. I am planning on re-pinning the stock harness and adding wires for the maf and such. Am i going to have to cut the connecters off the stock harness and splice the new connectors in? does anyone know if there is a difference between the 86 and 87 harness because the harness could possibly be an 87 harness. Which sensors from the original harness get cut out and which need to be added?

also does anyone know how the stock intercooler mounted? i have the one which mounted straight off the throttlebody but no the pieces which went from the turbo outlet to the intercooler.

also does anyone know anything about the merkur turbos? this is what i have and there are some slight differences but do they preform as well?

Good luck with the wires. I remember when i did mine... It sucked bad...But my truck was a 3.0 so it made thing a little more difficult. The wiring harnesses are different from 86 to 87. Ford added a ACT sensor that went into the intake close to the knock sensor. There are also a couple of other wiring changes. If i was you i would go ahead and use the 87-88 computer and large VAM. It would not be that big of a deal since you have not wired it yet. If the harness you have is for a 87 then it would be easy to do. I wish i would of used the big VAM and LA3 ECU when i first did my swap...now I'm going to have to dig back in my wire and re pin a couple and add the ACT wire. Here is a site that might help.
