i busted my tailgate handle, how do i get at it?

as you can see, i broke my tailgate handle and i cant figure out how to get at it :icon_confused:

, i would appreciate some help on this. thank you, and its an '03.

Access cover on the inside of the tailgate. 8 torx screws if I remember correctly.

Once you open it up, its pretty obvious how to remove the old one.

Replace it with a steel one this time.

I got the chrome one.

In the meantime, you can still open the tailgate by lifting the handle and using a screwdriver to pry up on the broken piece. I had to do that on the company truck.
