This guy lived in solitude for 30 years in Alaska - built his own log cabin with his bare hands and tools he put together - no machinery, no engines, no other people. It's amazing. I haven't watched the whole movie, but it's an 1 hour, 15 minutes. I gotta buy it!

Yea, they had a special on GPTV a while back, he did this until he was into his 80's. He is an INCREDIBLE man. He did EVERYTHING by hand, his cabin, his roof, his furniture...everything all wooden. Got his water from the lake and food from the woods. Incredible outdoorsman and friend to the environment.

I saw the whole movie on PBS. it was SWEET. the one thing though on PBS was the damn beg-o-thon they would go on for like 30 min. so the movie lasted for like 5 hours

Dick Proenneke's story is a good one.

Former navy carpenter, he had some serious skills. I can't even start to talk about the things he built/made because there's just too many. Right from wooden spoons to cement chimneys.
