what would the 2.9 be equivalent to if you bored it out .30 over
2.9 boring

Still boring - haha, pun intended. Seriously though, might pick you up 2-3hp. Money would be much better spent porting and polishing the head/intake manifold and getting some headers. That should net you like 15+ hp.

3.0 or 3.1.
There was a guy on here named Elfasto who was making a 4.0/2.9 hybrid. I think it was basically a "stroker" 2.9 that used 2.9 block and pistons with 4.0 rods and crank. Came out to be like a 3.5L.
Never did hear how it run, havent seen him around in forever.
