I am wonder if someone can help. I just bought a 93 STX with 3.0 and 5 speed trans. It has 3:73 gears and a 4 in lift. The previous owner had 33's on it and then I put 31's on it as i heard that 33's will ruin front suspension faster. I now need to change speedo gear to correct it as it is about 10 MPH off at 65 MPH. I know this would be better if I could tell gear color in it now, but I figure 31's are a popular mod...so does anyone know the right speedo gear for use with 31's

It's not that simple.

there are several different internal gears that could have been used.

the worm gear on the shaft that drives the gear on the cable can be any of four different gears, So the simplest route is for you to pull the speed gear
(you'll need a 7/16 socket on an extension)
and count the teeth.

You'll want a gear with more teeth to make it read slower.

That is atleast a two tooth error, possibly a three tooth speedo error.
