I recently installed a 1989 2.9 engine into my 1988 ranger. I figured it would be a direct bolt in. The problem I am having is the fuel pump relay is not closing and the EEC power relay is not closing. I have traced power back to them and have power to both. Ecc has power full time and in start, the fuel pump relay has power full time but nothing coming from the ECA (computer). I do have power at the yellow wire at the ECA, also have power to hot in run wire at ECA. My question is, what signal closes the relays from the ECA, does it complete the circuit thru the ground or is it 12 volts and is possible to check it at the wiring connection at the ECA? Thanks, Jim from Montana

got it fixed

It was the eec power relay, found this out thru the process of elimination. Replaced the brain, the fpr, and a couple of other things that I have no idea what they were. Thanks Jim
