After looking around with help from you guys and my friends here I purchased the goodyear dura trac. The size I got was the 265/75r16 in and e load rating. This is just an the first review to let you all know what I think and what I have done with them so far.
1st- These tires make a little noise at low speed, but you can't hear them at highway speed (70-75 mph) radio off and windows down.

2nd- Traction on pavement is very good. I have tried to spin out all these tires do is launch that much harder. In powder dirt it is like having shovels attached to your wheels, they dig in and again launch you hard. Down side to that is they do have the sidewall lugs, which I have never used before, they actually stick outside the wheel well and coat your ranger in a thick layer of dirt (which is fine except I had my windows open.)

3rd- These tires do look tough, people who are into trucks looking like a truck are loving the overall appearance.

4th- Price was not too bad, it was $915 plus some change. At discount tire with tax and m/b. If I get 4 years out of this heavy duty tire then they have paid for themselves.

5th-The ride is stiff then the p-rated tires that came stock with my ranger. However, The overall ride is not too bad. You do not even a kidney belt. I imagine that the c load ride would be comparable to the stock tires (I would have got the c's but was to impatient to wait for them.)

6th- When things get wetter and the snow falls I will report on those conditions.

so far, so good it sounds like!! can't wait to see how they do in snow and on ice. did you or are you going to have some extra siping done on them for ice?

They have alot of factory siping. So I think I will leave them be for now. They do have the mountain/snowflake on the side so we will see if they are my perfect tire!

Learned something new about the tire this morning as I was leaving the hardware store today. I looked down and the had climbed up the curb. the tread block was barely on yet it was holding onto the curb like nobodies business! If it can find something to grab these tires will grab it.

These are the tires I want to go with, but I'm concerned about how long they will last and wet weather/snow. Plus I hear they tend to wander during highway driving. Thoughts?

It is a little early for snow yet, but we had the first big rain since I bought these tires. they are amazing in the wet stuff. even deep standing water along the intersections. They track straight and true. The tires really do launch better then any tire I have ever used. So far they are my new favorite tire. I will be towing with them today so that will be another test.

to answer your questin tractorman about the mileage... i actualy work at discount tire and i have heard that theyre supposed to last a decent amount of time. my guess would be about 40000 miles possibly. which isnt horrible. and isnt outstanding either. so i hope that clears up a little bit. I've put on a few sets of these tires and so far they only have about 10000 miles on them

hopefully I am not running this thread into the ground, but I did get to tow with the duratrac, do some long distance highway time (70-75mph) and I must say that they tow clean as can be. My neighbor trimmed his tree and over loaded his utility trailer. It had about 3500 lbs in it and he used my truck and I towed the same trailer with a freezer in the back. No issues at all with the heavier load or the light load. The highway driving is great they are more quit then the stock rt/s that came with my ranger. I still love the way the duratrac's look. When we get snow this year I will update again...

i have these on mine, mudded them, climbed steep dirt and gravel hills, went in the sand at the beach and worked like a dandy...(i dont have limited slip btw) =]

If these last as long and are as tough as the Goodyear Workhorse they replace, then you should be happy with them. My boss has run Workhorses on his work trucks for 10 years and MAYBE has one flat a year. We work in the desert, rocks, deep sand, little pavement.

I'm thinking about a set of Duratracs for my ZJ.

With only 35 psi (again they are e load) with around 1200-1300 lbs. of compost these tires were really handling the road at interstate speed like a dream. I know I am not even coming close to the weight rating on the tires but damn if I don't love these tires. I don't have to do a lot of driving so in around 3 months I have logged around 1500-1700 miles they do great in rain (and standing water that was at a low point in the road) at 60 mph +. They find traction in powder dirt, or mud. The inside lugs cake up, but the outer lugs spin clean very well. No super swamper but a great all around do anything tire! Now if I can convince all of you to buy them then so goodyear will keep making them cause I think they are going to be on my truck for a good many year. I want them around for awhile yet!

Newest update! Wow these tires fall into the holysh@! range! Finally got to use in snow and ice. They clawed around like they had cleats on them. I got to drive ice covered rocks and they didn't miss a beat. I only used 4x4 once and that was so I would not tear up someones cabin drive way when I was turning around. sniff... I love these tires.

One of my co-workers has them on his Ram 3500 work truck. He likes them enough, he bought them for his own Silverado. There is a backlog nationwide on certain sizes...

We have been selling them like hot cakes, its our number 1 light truck winter tire right now.

Have heard nothing but good things coming back from customers. Ride nice, quiet, grip very well, wearing good. All good things so far from people running them on escapes and ranger all the way up to 1 tons.

Same here, looks like they have a winner as far as a general purpose tire goes. I'd go as far to say decent competition for the BFG AT in lighter trucks, and especially for the heavy trucks where the BFG doesn't seem to hold up.

Ok at 5:30 am I was heading to work this morning and It was finally iced over on the roads. These tires continue to shine. All I only had to slow down my take off down a little. Even the braking was controlled. Notice though that I did mention controlled speeds (For you hotrods out there.) It is still ice, but compared to the stock goodyear rt/s tires that I replaced They are still the best all around tires that I have ever used!

I had posted some on my ranger in 265/75r16. Folks I have to admit that I love these tires. I have not been this impressed by an a/t for along time!

I hated the RT/S almost as much as the AT/S.

I currently have the AT/S on my one ton and hate them SOB's. When I can afford it I have every intention of buying the Dura-Trecs.

Did I mention I work for a GoodYear and I can buy them at 20% below cost (as in 20% less then the normal cost my store pays for them, not retail):yahoo:

Had RT/S on my sport trac when I got it...tossed them after about 3 days of driving on them. Horrible tire.

I don't personally have a set of these, but I think I can make a good prediction about snow performance based on driving through several snowy winters on BFG A/T's.

When a tire has big sharp shoulder lugs, like the duratrac and BFG A/Ts, they really claw hard at snow when you're offroad. They are great for that. But driving partially plowed highways is another matter. Everything is great until you drift a little out of the tire tracks through the snow left by the cars in front of you. As soon as those shoulder lugs hit the 1" of snow at the edge of the tire track, they just get sucked in big time. This happened to me again and again with the BFG's, once it ended in with the exploder doing circles down a two lane road at 40 mph. Luckily I was able to pull it out of the spin after about 3 times around. I loved these tires for their snow traction, but they were downright scary trying to drive down a partially cleared road. I now have some Cooper Discoverer H/Ts on there (got a real good price on 265/75R15) and I'm confident the nice round shoulder of the H/T will be much better on snowy roads.

But like I said, this is all based on the BFG's. I'm interested to hear if the duratracs share this issue.

Ok so my tire pressure dropped a little due to major temp. changes. So I break out my mini air compressor. An amazing little 2 gal. husky from home depot. Well I get the idea to up the 35 psi that discount tire recommended for an e loaded tire on a light little truck like mine. I bumped it up to 46. It has 1. made the ride a little rougher. 2. It has made the tire noise a little loader. 3. It handles the street at highway speeds better. So if you see me looking a little shaken (I hope never to be stirred.) These tires do like having a little more air pressure. I just want some real snow to hit the Walla Walla Valley so that I can put that mountain/snowflake rated tire to one more test.

Ihave now driving these duratracs through everything except sand. Snow and Ice are really no problem as long as you drive right for the enviroment. These last few days there have been roads that are covered with packed snow and water. Tires stick to the ground very well. Again I have to stress that proper winter time driving is still needed. there is standing water on the ice so that is even more dangerous. Back to topic on hand. In 2wd plan on spinning a little before the tires grip. In 4wd with no weight in the bed, NO ISSUES! If you are looking for a great all around tire this is it. This is more then likely the last post I will do but if anybody has anything to add, please do. I just know that these are my tires until goodyear stops making them.

Facebook doesn't like linking to pictures, or letting other people see them. which is kinda nice because your pictures aren't out there for just anyone to find. Try Photobucket.com, free and it works infinitely better for putting misc pics online.

You did the pictures right, it's a security thing on Facebook's side.

Ok ONE last post (for real this time!) I have had these tires for almost 6 months now. Again I have not driven in sand, read no comment. I have never seen a tire do so much, this well. ON road at highway speeds, quiet, sure footed and even with a heavy-ass load, no sway. (I can't judge weights due to the e load rating, they don't squish down like the p rated tires do!) Wet pavement. They dig in and soldier on. Snow. They laugh at snow and ice. Powered dirt they act like paddles. Mud. DO NOT STICK YOUR HEAD OUT THE WINDOW! Yeah I did it once. These tires throw things hard. Gravel is a day in the park. They are showing no signs of wear after six months of hard use and several corner curb scuffs. The side lugs grab anything available to give you even more traction in the lose stuff. Long live the Duratrac tires!

i love thses too and havnt found anything there bad with. i rolled my truck with them on ( not the tires fault) and the rim protectors worked great the tire hit sidewall flat on the the ground and my rims fine
