hopin to find a solution for the tranny

i have a 90 ranger 2wd 2.4 cid with a m50d-r1 tranny . problem is that it pops out of reverce and hard to go it 5th gear ?overdive. ?is this a problem with the shift rails or a bad seco p/s i put all new clucth kit.please help if yous can thanks
 
I would check the shifter itself. There are three bolts under the boot you can take loose and pull the whole assembly out. Check the white rubber ball on the shifter to make sure it is intact.
