I got the first one with my E.B. swap. By far the easiest. With an E.B. as a donor it is almost a bolt in. I don't have pics of the swap but, The truck is on my photobucket, sub-album "Deranged mudder".
I would love to try a set of portals (unimog) but, I have never seen a set in person, Much less had an opportunity to buy them.

I've got an EBD44, and am still workin on swapping it in. It's gonna have crossover high steer running OTT style arms, with 1.75'' DOM tie rod's and Chevy 1 ton TRE's. Gears are Yukon 4.56's, still waiting for some shafts, and front is open for now, goin with an ox locker when I can afford it.
And the current sad state of affairs....both front and rear axles are now lyin in my DD awaiting rebuild, and the shop's a lil cleaner thanks to my dad...:temper: I'll have to grab some new pics of my 5.5" chevy leafs when I get a chance. :yahoo: Anyone need a detroit locked 28 spline 8.8?

No pics, but I've had a full width HP D44 out of a 74 F100 for about 2 yrs now. Converted to discs using Ford outers and running 4.88 gears and a Lockright.
IMO, full width or a Waggy D44 is the way to go.

yea i think the next time i do this, it will be a full width 44. I got this axle kinda out of the blue, and once i ve done it, a fullsize isnt much harder. Im looking for a ranger that has a lift already so i dont have to deal with rivets haha. Ive also considered a fx4 level II with the waggy front, but that would be pricey right now. But man what a daily driver/weekend warrior!!

8.8 pissed me off for the last time...so i just did dana 60's.
who knew? i always thought the d35 was failure that would drive me over the edge:icon_confused:
i looked at some volvo axles but thats just costly work i dont need to do. at 1600 for the set though it was a tough choice.
only way(till the new mopar axles)i would put a d44 in is if i put 60 shafts and outers on it. after watching people constantly destroy all the bling chromo/super joint 44 stuff, i just couldnt justify it. now the places i have not been going to i can finally try. pf course...after upgrades:D

Dana 44's Front and Rear; Re-geared to 4.56, Moser alloy 32 spline shafts, GM Knuckles and Disk Brakes in front, Scout D-44 disk conversion in rear, Detroit Locker in Front and Power-Lock in Rear Custom Drive Shafts with 1310 U-Joints and long travel splines

I used a dana 44 waggy axle. I think it is perfect. It is a few inches wider then stock and the pumpkin is over far enough that you clear the engine cross member. Allows for less lift and still a good amount of up travel.

how much wider is the waggy than stock rbv front end and same question for an EB d44? this is something i'm looking to do but i can't choose which axle i want. It seems that a d30 is the cheapest but the weakest for the swap... my area anyways thanks for answering the noob questions guys

Since than I've painted it and added a 93 4.0 and replaced the blown trans with an M50D
