Ive read somewhere that some ranger owners are bolting up the stronger C-4 trans when replacing the stock trans. I have a 97 4X4 extended cab 4.0, and the trans is almost gone. I would like to do the swap if at all possible without putting in a V8. (maybe later). Do companies like Advanced Adapters or Summit make a swap kit? Im finding it hard to believe that there isnt some type of aftermarket beefed up-bullit proof trans for the 4.0! Thanks in advance for any input.

yes it can be done. cullhane makes a bellhousing. runs about 400

also there is anouther ford based bellhousing that works as well.

search around on dezertrangers.com and you can find the info, even think someone was selling the ford bellhousing for about 200 bucks.

I want to say 2.8 pinto is what its from.but dont quote me on that.

dont forget about the 700r4 kits too, for the 4.0 get to keep OD that way

Yes it is possible! you can use a bell housing off a 2.8 broncoII but im not sure what year! Culhane also makes a flexplate, because the torque converter is different. I suggest just go w/ Culhane less headache. You also may need to add a speed sensor.

Yes it is possible! in addition to the bellhousing you'll also need to change the flexplate, because the torque converter is different and the bolt pattern on the crank is different! there is a 2.8 BroncoII bellhousing you can use but not sure what year:( It actually is a popular swap. you may also need to add a speed sensor. Both are available from Culhane
