I am changing the filter in my 87 Ranger. There is no magnet in the sump. Is there suppose to be? If so What size is it ? Also I appear to have a after market trans cooler. It looks like it has a inline filter in it also. Is this normal ? I have no Idea where to get a new inline filter if that is what it is. It looks kinf of like a round accordian. Thanks Ken

I recently took a a4ld off my truck and put back a a4ld. In both cases the tranny didn't have a magnet. I took a old hard drive magnet and put it in the bottom of the pan.

Thanks

Thanks, I had read your post so I pulled apart a old WD 1600 hard drive but no magnet. I am going to look today for a old speaker at the thrift stores. Ken

ALL harddrives have magnets in them, but you've gotta know where to look.

As for a magnet in the pan of an automatic? the problem with automatic transmissions is the NON magnetic debris.

As for the inline filter?

That filter (which looks like a big inline fuel filter) has a magnet inside it. you can get them from any Ford dealer.
