put 4.0 from '94 exloder in my '88 ranger. will crank but will not run unless i hold a gas soaked rag over intake checked all sensors and they are hooked up cant get to run at my wits end please help

Just go back over the basics for a engine to run, Air, Fuel, Compression, Spark, You know you have spark if it can start, check fuel and air first, then a compression check, so check air filter/ intake and check the fuel lines and pump. :icon_thumby:

there is OBVIOUSLY something that you overlooked, mis connected, disconnected or crossconnected.

Asking us to guess what and where?

If I could do that I'd be the star of my own TV show making millions of dollars.

The only way to find it is the same way you always find such a problem,
take the manuals for both vehicles and be methodical.

It could be something as simple as a ground wire left dangling.

But anything I tell you is a guess.

And there are too many possibilities to make anything resembling a reasonable guess.
