So are you going to put a dodge axle under your ranger? If so this I've got to see.

Only certain years are driver side drop. Anything older than 1994 would have been passenger side drop and VERY similar to the Chevy-spec axles.

Anybody know if there are advantages/disadvantage to having it on the driver side as oppossed to the passenger?

i think mostly just t case drop must be same (as axle). also as far as the dodge axle under my truck, i thought about 1/2 tonne dodges but apperantly they have whats called a CAD (central axle disconnect) and are very weak. it was dirt cheap so hard to pass up. whole truck for 75 bucks. sigh... keep lookin for jeeps w/44 i guess. wish i could find a beat EB with a good 44 but no luck so far. if i found a cheap d60 i'd go that route but i dont know anything about them. although i am lookin! (yes my project is still semi alive!)

I have a D30 without the CAD on it....yaaaa for me.

But ya the CAD is a weak point and it doesn't always engage when you want, its stupid.

As for my project...ya it semi alive too, it slowed down due to welder loaned out and break line blew, which will be fixed in a few days.

mine requires funds. which are tight due to my being underpaid. hope for a raise soon! need it pretty bad. forced to live @ home due to rent on a 1 bed appt being 3/4 of my check not including any other costs which there are many. but if i stay home till rent goes down or i find a cheaper place, i've got a roomy who i can get but i need cheaper! nuff bout me how does this CAD work? i heard D30s are weak enough anything else cant be good!

From what I'm reading it a sleeve that goes over the two axles to lock them both in. Basiclly another moving part that will fail when you need it the most.

D30 are only weak if you are pushing them beyond what they are made for. If you are going to rock crawl, hard off roading, etc... then put something stronger under your truck.

But if your going to use it as a DD, get through snow, BIG mud puddles, and looks, etc... like mine will be doing, then a D30 is fine.

sweet. i may eventually do this but im not on a time limit and i want a new dirtbike so im just saving and waiting right now. plus its needs a new motor, tranny, tcase before i SAS cause its been abused and poorly maintained. on the flip side it WAS only 140 bucks
