Pitman Arm

Depends on the puller. A high-quality puller like one from Matco or Snap-on seems to work well, while the cheap-o ones from Harbor Freight or AutoZone break rather easily. Add a little bit of heat to the arm (careful not to damage the seal in the steering box, and it will make things easier.

WITHOUT a puller? Don't. Buy rent or borrow.

I bought one from said Autozone, and it works flawless. Hit it with an impact and it came right off..

Where you at? You are more than welcome to borrow it.

It's possible to do it without a puller(without messing stuff up), but you really dont want to do it... just buy a puller, and get to it..

I keep reading about everyone's troubles with this and have decided I must be lucky or something. I've used the same HF tie-rod puller on the BII, the Ranger, and on two other rust-belt BIIs and have never had a problem. I spend a significant amount of time lining it up just perfectly centered, put a 3' cheater on the breaker bar, and voila, the bitch pops off no problem each time.

I bought a cheapo puller and got lucky. Had to modify it though as the fingers were too thick to fit between the arm and the box.

The cheap ones are a crapshoot.
I have broke more than I can remember, but One of the guys at work has the same puller, and I use it all the time without a problem
