So, I took the bed off the truck today -- an '89 Supercab Ranger -- to replace the shackle brackets.
Edit: Shocks installed and getting hardware tomorrow. Praise the discount. Going to start Rust-Bullet application Monday if possible.
Any preferences on leaf springs aside from Junkyarding?
Long version:
Lo and behold, the driver's side one came snapping up once I started to unbolt the shackle from it. After removing the bushing and bolt from the shackle all together to get working space, I move on to removing the other side... with a sledgehammer, since there was very little material left to it.
Same story, except that I found the front leaf spring eye was broken in half -- and jiggling the other side, same issue. Removed the springs and found the front leaf spring hangers (brackets?) are pretty shot up too. The shock absorbers were leaky and pretty useless as well, so I removed them and inspected the hardware, which is OK, but they need replacing.
So effectively, the entire rear suspension is going to need overhauling...
At least while the bed is off I can fix the e-brake, and anything else back here.
