hey
sorry i haven't been on here for a long long time so all my lingo is gone
anyways im back in to the ranger game, i just bought a 83 ranger 4x4 with the 2.3L(love those little engines) with the 4 spd manual trans but reverse is gone in it
well i've got sitting at home a 5sp manual trans that came out of an 89 4x4 ranger with the 2.3L
I was wondering what it would take to swap the two?
im hopeing they just bolt right up, thanks

I would say that they should... but the clutch sysems may be different. I believe you have a TK4 and the trans you want to swap in is probably a FM 16_ something or like an M5OD... I think the 2.3L would have the same bolt pattern. Where do you live? I have a TK5 from a 2wd 84 all you need to do is swap bell housings.

it should bolt up i think your current 4spd will have a external slave cylinder but the quick disonect should plug right in to the internal slave on the newer 5spd. if im wrong someone will correct me, i dont think rangers had a mechanical cluth linkage

I think rangers only came with hydralic clutches, except his is an external and the other is an internal. A TK 5 is a 5speed trans which will bolt right up clutch line and all.

the newer trans has a internal slave but your lines should just hook up fine

check the bolt pattern on the bellhousings, I think they will interchange. I myself like the earlier external slaves.

clutches are mostly the same.
