It's a shame that Ford hasn't taken advantage of the Ranger at this point in its life cycle to come out with something different, say for example, and shortbed 2WD model with 4.0L and a stick complete with a true sport suspension.

I suspect most of the models that they're likely producing are then plain white, four cylinder delivery type Rangers.

The only reason they have kept the line open this long is people are buying them as cheap trucks that get good milage.

Tell me about it. I wanted a 4-door supercab, 2wd, 4 cyl. and the dealer told me you can't get a 4 cyl. in a 4-door supercab only a 2-door supercab. If you want a 4-door supercab you have to get the 4.0L V-6. Can someone tell me why, this is stupid. You can get a Nissan Frontier in a 4-door xtracab, 4 cyl.
Ford and any other company are in no position to be putting on restrictions of what you can and can not order with the state of economy today.

The current Ranger doesn't have an outdated look, but they could have at least done something to freshen up the interior over the years. How hard/expensive would that have been???

Ford wants to continue production of the Ranger through 2012 now. If they'd just give us a diesel or the Ecoboost 4cyl. without making it a mid-size too.

It'd be nice if they'd stop lowering the trucks for fuel economy too......... we have the technology to pull more hp and mpg's!!!!
and fix the stuff they know will go wrong like the cargo light leaking.....
the auto's acting up
the door hinge going crazy and making the key beaper beep, and the interior light stay on.
And the center consoles/armrest breaking.

But that's just me.

Restyling/retooling costs a lot of money. When was the Porche 911 really restyled? Little bit at a time but I'd sure take one. I think the motors are going to really change due to the up coming C.A.F.E requirements.

how did they screw up the Taurus (best selling sedan from 92-96) Explorer (was best selling SUV for like 13 years) and Ranger (Best selling compact pickup from 1987 to 2004)

But they did.

If they came out with a quad cab that had a usable bed, I'd buy it in an instant. That Explorer SportTrack doesn't work for me -- niether form nor function.

I want one too, but the only way were gonna get one is put a Jetta TDI engine in one cause Ford is not going to.

The Ranger is on borrowed time, Ford was originally going to kill it altogether after '09. I suspect if sales drop off before the next truck is ready they will kill it then. The tooling has to be paid for by now, it is just gravy money for them as long as it pays the light bill and labor to build them.

Tell me about it. I wanted a 4-door supercab, 2wd, 4 cyl. and the dealer told me you can't get a 4 cyl. in a 4-door supercab only a 2-door supercab. Because you can burn more money making freaky one off trucks that only one person will buy than you will make on it. That is why custom ordered vehicles have been getting fewer and fewer options since the 70's.

It also could be that the Ranger with its four cylinder is transformed into a gutless turd with the extra weight.

I was talking to a Ford dealership yesterday and the manager said Ford wants to do away with the Ranger all together and have the Ranger owners use them ( the Ranger ) as a trade in on either the F 150 or Raptor. He said they see the Ranger as out dated and a waste of money. So he said anyways. Wouldn't surprise me if it is true though.
