I have a 93 Ranger 4.0 5sp with 8.8 open diff with 3.08s. What year rangers or explorers can I find a posi 8.8 with 3:73s that I can swap right out without any mods? What about 4:10s? How can I expect my truck to run with that ratio?

Any 93+ diff will swap right in, but you'll have to check the tag to make sure of the raito and the L/S. Explorer diffs will need the spring perches relocated on top of the axle, and 95'+ will need E-brake cable modifications to work properly.

IMO 3.73s would be perfect for those tires, 4.10s would be too deep.

235/60/15s. I also have a lower kit with the flip kit if that matters any.

If your truck is lowered via a flip-kit, the Explorer axle might be just what you're looking for. The spring perches are the same width as the Ranger, but being they're already underneath, it should bolt right in (you'll just need larger u-bolts, as the Ex axle has 3.25" tubes). '95-'01 Ex axles will also have disc brakes, some brake cable mods will be needed to hook them up properly though.

Agreed on 3.73 gears (3.55 would work great too if you tend to drive fast on the highway).

Just a quick check....on the tag on the rear end...if it has an L in there that means its a posi traction rear end, right? If no L is there its open?

yes, if by L you mean in the second row and the difference between 3L73 and 3 73
