Someone else on the site has had a similar issue. It's making something like a whirring, roaring noise when I hit 50 mph or at about 2500 rpms that goes away after I disengage the clutch. I had a shop look it over, they said it's the pinion bearing, but that doesn't make any sense to me, the clutch has nothing to do with that. I've tried going faster and going into fifth gear, but the noise is still there. After I disengaged the clutch, the noise got softer, but didn't go away.

yes it could be pinion bearings. when you push in the clutch it takes power away from the driveline. if you took your foot off the throttle and it gets quieter it is doing the same thing. without being there it would be hard to trace down a noise i cant hear from here. but yes it could be pinion bearings.

Its probably the pilot bearing or the input bearing of the trans.

I called the Transmission shop, there saying my tranny needs to be rebuilt. at 2,300 to 2,700 dollars. Not what I expected. only 76,000 miles on the truck.

Bring it to me this week, and we can rebuild it a lot cheaper than that.

PM me, and we'll swap phone numbers and get you back on the road!

Have you...checked the fluid in the trans and diff? How about u-joints?

Any shop will say 'It needs a rebuild' to make 2,300 to 2,700 dollars...

Could be the pinion, as they will usually make noise under load, pinion nut still tight?

I'd do some poking around before shelling out that kind of dough.

just changed the fluid in the tranny two weeks ago. havent checked the diff. ive had some minor shifting problems as well. hard to get into 1st at a stop (got better when changed to mecron from mecron v.) alittle resistance going into second. I have no clue on how to check the u-joints or pinion nut.

Being hard to shift into 1st at a stop is usually a sign of a slave crapping out. If it really is your trans, a JY trans which is probably in good condition is $500 at the most extreme end of things, and $150-$250 at more reasonable places. I'll let you do the math.

The problem:
Got the truck back yesterday, the slave cylinder was replaced. now I have another problem. I push in clutch, shift into fourth gear, release clutch then give it gas. there's a thud or jerking motion when I do that. It didn't do that before it was in the shop.

The last five days:
The shop I took it to before kept running me around for five days. I called the guy i bought the truck from he got his tow truck; loaded my truck on there with the tranny still out of it and took it to his transmission guy. they ended up going back to aamco transmission to get my driveshaft out of there dumpster.

Usually you give it gas while letting the clutch out, to get the engine going at near the same rpm that the output shaft is turning. If I just let the clutch out without giving it gas my truck jerks as well.

The bucking thing happend again tonight on the way home from work. I stopped at a gas station, revved it up then the idle took a nose dive. repeated this a couple times; same result. when the truck seems to be acting up when its been cool outside (only at night).
