theres a friend of mine in town that has a 99' ranger with 4.10 and 36" tsl tires. it is an auto with 36,000 miles on the trans..and it rides good and the transmission seems fine, no slippage..is this possible with 4.10 and the trans still holdin up this well???

It's only a matter of time with that auto and those gears. If its just street driven and he is easy on it, the trans will last a little longer, but he needs to regear.

If it's driven easy and the fluid flushed regularly then yes. But then with those tires there's a lot more than 36,000 miles unless the speedo has been recalibrated (doubtful).
