Im buying a parts vehicle and I got a 93 4.0 4x4(5 speed).... the parts vehicle is a 94 explorer sport 4.0 2 wheel drive (5 speed) Im wondering if those are the same transmissions? obviously the 2 wheel drive doesnt have the transfer case but can I bolt it up in my 4x4?

You will need to swap the tail housings and the output shaft. Swapping the output shaft requires disassembling the entire transmission. You'd be best off looking for another 4wd trans.

The trans also must be from another 4.0: 3.0 and 4 cyls have different bellhousing patterns and won't work.

You have to disassemble the transmission to install the tailhousing for the t-case to bolt up...
