oil pressure seems low?

hey got a 96 ranger 4.0 At freeway speeds 60-70 mph my oil pressure gage drops pretty close to the red mark on the gage. the truck runs great and doesn't use any oil has about 35000 mile on rebuilt engine from ford. maybe a bad connection? or a sending unit if there is one? any advice will help heres a pic of what it looks like at freeway speeds

o and around town reads fine right in the middle.

I fixed your picture for you.

As for the 'oil pressure' gauge, its more or less just a dummy gauge, as it does not give true oil pressure readings. It will go to the normal range anytime the sending unit sees around 8psi. Its most likely the sending unit that is going bad if it is fluctuating. If you were actually getting low oil pressure you would start hearing noise from the top end of the engine. If you want to be sure, the only way is to get a true mechanical gauge and hook it up.

Oh, and the sending unit is located on the drivers front side of the engine, just above the oil pan on the side of the block.
 
thanks for the advice, i was kinda thinking the same thing that the stock one wouldn't be to accurate do any of you guys run a mechanical one or just deal with the stock crappy one? on and the motor it isn't making any unusual noises
 
I run mechanical gauges for water temp, volt and oil pressure gauges. I like to know what my engine is doing.
