hey everyone, i just had a few questions i was hoping someone could help me out with. im in the process of building an 85 302 ranger and it came factory with the hydraulic clutch setup. the tranny i am using for the swap is a cable setup. what i was wondering is if anyone knows how close the mustang pedal assemblies are to the ranger pedals, otherwise im going to have to fab up a quadrant system. if anyone has any ideas or any info that would help please let me kno. thanks in advance.
 
Maintaining the hydraulic system is much easier than trying to fab up a cable system. Lots have tried and ended up going with the hydraulic system. All you need to add is the proper external slave cylinder and hosing. Lots of slaves to chose from.

I know of some people that have drilled new holes in the mustangs pedal assembly in order to get it to bolt up. I chose to modify a rangers pedal assembly for the quadrant. Here are a couple pics.

i believe id be looking at getting a push style external slave if i left it as a hydraulic system, is that correct? what would be a good slave to look into?
 
The push type is the one to use. The early Mustangs were able to use the cable system because of the room, the newer ones, '05' and up use the hydraulic internal throwout bearing.

ok thats what i was thinking, what would be a good vehicle reference to get a slave from.
 
Lot's have used the 280 ZX slave, but that all depends on what size of master cylinder you have. Sent you a lot of good stuff to read over, pro's and con's of each. Seems like a lot of people don't understand hydraulics all that well.

isnt that the truth, lol. im a technician by trade, and i do understand hydraulics, i was just hoping to get a couple different opinions. i had never even thought of using an external slave instead of a cable. im glad i can keep it a hydraulic system, thanks for all of your help
 
Did you ever get a chance to read thru all that info I sent? Looks doable with all stock parts.

yes i did dave, i ended up ordering a 93 nissan 240 sx slave because we didnt have one in stock, and cost on that was about 7.50 my cost. thanks again for all your help
 
I stumbled on this old post, I am currently in the same situation & was wondering how it work out. If so do you have any more specific information on your setup?
